Boy Zorro and the Bully, the latest book published by Lectura Books, was heralded in The The Huffington Post as part of a commentary on the bullying plague in our schools. The post, “The Bullying Epidemic and Ways to Counter It,” examined the sweeping wave of bullying in schools in the U.S. as well as in other countries. In the August 11, 2014 post, the Boy Zorro book was held up as an example of how various organizations, companies, and governments are attempting to stem the tide of bullying.
Along with an effective anti-bullying program in Finland called KiVa, which has spread to other countries as well as states in the U.S., the new Lectura Books title was described as a “cutting-edge” effort to address this social problem. The post made the point that given the fast-growing Hispanic population in U.S. schools having a bilingual book that “speaks to the rising epidemic of bullying is a timely idea.”
The story also looked at how Riot Games, the company that produces League of Legends, the most popular video game in the world, is addressing cyber bullying.
As noted in the report, “To stop and end bullying really means setting social norms and sticking to them and making sure there are real consequences for bad behavior. It requires focus and persistence but, as Lectura Books, the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture, and Riot Games have learned, change occurs one step at a time. Let’s hope that with programs and books like these that there won’t be anymore young people who commit suicide or try to because they’ve been bullied. It’s time to step up and stop the madness.”
We at Lectura Books are delighted to have our anti-bullying book seen as a creative way to deal with this major problem along with other similar innovative approaches.
